OPEN DAY MATCH REPORT 5th SEPTEMBER 2015

MITCHAM PARK U12 STRIPES vs MERTON U12s

After a long wait from 9.30am, the ‘boys’ were well prepared to kick off at 1pm.

The game started in quick fashion with the ‘boys’ finding their feet in the first 10 mins.

It took time to get going with the addition of 4 new players making their debut for ‘Mitcham Park FC’.

After 10 mins, we started to dominate the game and relaxed after a couple of ‘goals’ from Omar (2) and Adama (1) 3-0. We looked most dangerous out wide on both the left and right where Omar was making positive moves down the left and Denzel (debutant ) working hard down the right linking up well with Jephte and Ryan in central midfield. Our defence looked very organised and the communication we had been working on in training was evident from the start with another debutant ‘ Morris’ taking the place of ‘ Thomas Cubbitt’ at centre back. Kyle Sammut at right back organised and communicated well.

Casey Powell made some positive runs out from left back, showing composure on the ball. Merton were awarded a penalty after a slightly miss timed tackle from Jephte. Now was the turn of Daniel Figuera-Bourton ( debutant Goal Keeper ) who made himself a huge presence in goal , up stepped Jayden Dickson, an ex-Mitcham Park Player to take ‘Merton’s’ penalty. He hit a low shot that was heading into the bottom left-hand corner; Daniel got down early and tipped the ball round the post, keeping a clean sheet; this gave Daniel real confidence and he started to command his area and talk to the defence organised well.

Half time came quickly, after a fast paced first half with Mitcham Park leading 3-0. Second Half changes were made with the introduction of Jathusan (debutant) up front and Thomas Cubbitt slotting in at right back and Kyle Sammut at centre back moving ‘Morris’ to centre midfield, which paid off as ‘Morris’ struck within 2 mins of restart 4-0.

Ryan Greasby had a great free kick saved by the Keeper from about 20 yards; not to be out-done he got another chance; this time from about 30/35 yards; what came next was a bullet of a free kick which roared into the top corner 5-0. We had some periods of great possession, playing the ball around from back to front and left to right. This was pleasing to see as we had been working hard on retaining possession in the summer. Denzel was rewarded for his hard work with fantastic solo effort, struck with some power after cutting in from the Left 6-0.

Morris was looking to add to his ‘goals’ and was rewarded after a powerful run, beating 3/4 players with pace, driving into the area and slotting past the Keeper 7-0.

This was a great performance and I think we will do well this season after being promoted by 2 Divisions (keep it up ‘boys’).
